CHROMATICS – Indigo
Oil on canvas
200 x 200cm

When I paint the Chromatics, my hand moves freely around the circle with broad brushes, almost like a Tai Chi body meditation. I work with multiple shades of indigo until something begins to vibrate within the colour — until I hear its inner hum, its tone. This is where seeing and hearing merge for me. Indigo is a colour of transition — from the visible into the invisible. For me, it carries something ancient and sacred. Traditionally extracted from plants through a process in which the blue only becomes visible through transformation and contact with air, indigo seems to carry this mystery within the colour itself. It opens a threshold into what cannot immediately be seen, yet can perhaps be sensed. I invite you, the viewer to come closer, to stay with the colour and allow their own experience to unfold.

Within a room, Indigo carries the depth of dark blue and something of the spherical presence of our Earth. It creates a sense of depth, transition and opening into the unseen. I see it in a private salon, a bedroom, a meditation or retreat space, but also in a distinguished entrance, a hotel or a quiet public space — where its deep presence can give the room a sense of vastness, mystery and connection to something beyond the immediately visible.

It opens a threshold into what cannot immediately be seen, yet can perhaps be sensed.

Product Description

In the Chromatics series, my focus is entirely on colour — more precisely, its effect. I want my paintings to become perceptual elements — subtly shaping atmosphere and altering how a space is perceived.

My work with colour explores its unfolding in space, encouraging viewers to immerse themselves in its vibrancy.

I work against a dark background that is never fully black, allowing the colour to breathe — warm, vibrant and gently held — as it moves into the surrounding depth through very fine, layered gradations. This approach enhances the sense of depth and movement within each painting.

These works are not only made to be looked at from a distance. The viewer is invited to come closer, to stay with the work and allow their own experience to unfold. The scale of the paintings encourages physical immersion, where the body can merge with the colour, not just see it.

I think of my paintings as fields of resonance, activated in the encounter between painting and viewer. Your movement, distance and attention complete the work.

My works live and function within space. They influence how a place is perceived and felt, subtly shaping atmosphere and giving a space its own voice.
